“The Flash” is heading to Earth-2 and Barry, Harry and Cisco are in for a rude awakening. While they may still be in Central City, things couldn’t possibly be more different — and have deteriorated since Harry first appeared on Earth-1.
Zap2it was able to screen the episode “Welcome to Earth-2” and has a sizable treat for fans of the show. After speaking with executive producers Todd and Aaron Helbing, here are five spoilery teases that should get you adequately pumped to go on a journey to another universe on “The Flash.”
1. WestAllen fans will ‘go crazy’
Those are the words of the Helbings, when teasing what Earth-2 will bring for the couple that’s seemingly fated for each other. Though Barry of Earth-1 is still getting over being dumped by Patty (Shantel VanSanten), the photos from “Welcome to Earth-2” make it clear that his doppelganger has a very different relationship with Iris.
2. Holy Easter eggs, Batman!
With Earth-2 now in play, producers made sure to jam-pack as many Easter eggs to other parts of the DC Universe as possible. Keep an eye out for nods to a variety of other characters and shows, plus some surprise familiar faces you may not be expecting to see.
3. Get ready for a lot of Joe West singing
As the photos from the episode promised, Joe (Jesse L. Martin) does get behind the microphone on Earth-1 and in a move that should surprise nobody, he’s a fantastic singer. On Earth-2, he’s a self-proclaimed musician who is knocking socks off in a local club and he does it for more than one song.
Finally, Martin gets to put those Broadway chops to work. Now they just need to find a way to make it happen on Earth-1.
4. Cisco is a Twizzler fan
Cisco (Carlos Valdes), Barry and Harry (Tom Cavanagh) are heading to Earth-2, but not without the proper provisions. While Cisco is bringing everything a guy needs to survive on an alternate world, he’s also packing a sugar fix in the form of Twizzlers, which are the most important part of his vest filled with supplies.
“If you’re going to go to an alternate universe, why would you not take licorice?” Todd says. Aaron adds, “You gotta’ take a little piece of home with you.”
5. You’re going to love Killer Frost
One of the most exciting aspects of “Welcome to Earth-2” is fans finally getting to see Killer Frost (Danielle Panabaker), after the evil side of Caitlin Snow was first teased in the Season 1 finale. Luckily for viewers, they’re going to see a lot of her as Frost plays a major role in the episode.
“This is very similar to getting Jesse to sing, it felt the most appropriate and the most organic to go over there and meet Killer Frost and Deathstorm and get to see a different aspect of their superpowers — not their superpowers but the personalities that go along with those superpowers,” Aaron says. “Anybody getting to play a doppelganger that’s evil, I think is in some ways the most fun you can have.”
As for whether this shuts the door on Earth-1’s Caitlin having an evil side, that’s not necessarily the case. It’s off the table at the moment, though.
“For that to happen, there’s going to have to be some scenario that would trigger that,” Aaron says. “Right now it’s not a possibility.”
“The Flash” airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. PT on Portland’s CW.
