Big announcements surrounding Season 2 of “Supergirl” keep coming. First, the series moved from CBS to The CW, moving its entire production from Los Angeles to Vancouver. Then news came of an epic future “Arrow,” The Flash,” and “Legends of Tomorrow” crossover episode. Now, weeks after it was announced that Superman would be visiting his cousin Kara Zor El (Melissa Benoist) in National City, the series has announced the actor playing the Man of Steel.
Ladies and gentleman, “Supergirl”s’ Superman will be played by actor Tyler Hoechlin.
The 28-year-old got his career start playing Tom Hanks’ son in the movie “Road to Perdition,” and since then has been a TV series regular on both “7th Heaven” and “Teen Wolf.” He’s also set to appear in the upcoming sequel films based on the E.L. James’ books “Fifty Shades Darker” and “Fifty Shades Freed.”
There’s a strong resemblance between Hoechlin’s dark features and the man audiences have grown accustom to see playing Clark Kent. While it will be fun to see the famous superhero that Kara and James (Mehcad Brooks) refer to often throughout Season 1, we’re hoping Superman’s presence is brief.
The show is called “Supergirl.” Benoist does a fantastic job carrying the series and she surrounded with a stellar roup of wonderfully talented co-stars. Calista Flockhart rules as her boss Cat, and Chyler Leigh routinely kicks butt as her half-sister Alex Danvers.
The women on “Supergirl” have been handling things just fine without Superman’s help in National City. Kara’s cousin is more than welcome to stop by for a visit, but please don’t let him permanently move in.
